Foodie Chronicles: Sugar Rush at Madeleine

Cebu, PhilippinesMadeleine, the French-inspired bread and pastry shop as well Waterfront Cebu Hotel’s patisserie and boulangerie, recently had a Dessert Madness day. I was invited by a fellow blogger, Karlo Pacana of Out of Town Blog and was able to sample its delicious treats. The treats were shared as well with couple bloggers Gaylord Tingzon and Mae Godino of LifeholicsPH.

Madeleine is found at the Gourmet Walk of the Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino and has been giving sweet treats to hotel guests and walk-ins alike. They had a wide array of pieces of bread, pastries, cakes, and other treats that will surely make your meal endings sweet.

Madeleine holds a quiet interesting collection of sweets, aimed at satisfying your cravings on point. The bread area also on sale a few minutes before the closing time. At 7 PM daily, there are promotions like 40% off on bread like Banana Bread and loaves.

As the afternoon went on, we were able to sample the #BestOfMadeleine, cakes, and pastries that embody the unique taste of the shop. We actually had a hard time deciding what to sample but we decided to get one out of each.

The best way to be able to enjoy Madeleine is to visit it after lunch, where the intensifying summer heat is at its finest, and when the city is already bustling. When you somehow need a break from the monotonous lifestyle and the pressured cycle of the urban jungle, all you need to do is head on to the shop and get your sweet cravings satiated.

I admit, I am not really a fan of sweets but there are really times when I need some sugar rush for me to accomplish things. And the pastry shop did not disappoint me. In my honest opinion, which I can confidently say as a foodie, the smooth texture of the cakes, especially the ref cakes, are quite a relief on my taste buds. I haven’t really expected this and I was impressed. The Tuna Sandwich and the Mille Feuille Vanilla – puff dough with vanilla pastry cream got my attention. The sandwich was so light and the Mille Feuille was heaven. It was not too sweet and was so creamy. Another new delight, Island Cake, got its inspiration from sweet mangoes and other fruits in season such as bananas and passionfruit, blended together in a light sponge cake and dusted with dissicated coconut.

I was fortunate to sample one of their bestsellers, Chocolate Delice – moist, pure chocolate, flourless cake. The other cakes, Oreo Ivory Mousse and Triple Chocolate Mousse are actually the original cakes of Madeleine that made it on the Bestseller List.

Before I forget, the Ham and Cheese Croissant was a great addition to the menu. I am a fan of it ever since I was a kid. I remember that whenever I had field trips and educational tours, my mom would always buy some ham and cheese croissants as a snack item paired by fruit juices.

So there, Madeleine got my cravings fixed. 🙂
